9 camping destinations near Berlin

We have collected the best destinations you can reach from Berlin with a full tank.

All of us think of a place away from home when we hear the word "holiday". AWAY. Anywhere, but not HERE. Preferably someplace that resembles home as little as possible. Somewhere warm and close to the sea, sand, red wine or mountains to ensures that everyday life is buried by a flood of new impressions and can just disappear - at least for a short time - into nothingness and insignificance.
Unfortunately, distant travel is in increasingly strong conflict with sustainability and soft tourism. Nevertheless, this is no reason to give up holidays, adventure and new impressions. Adventures can also be found close to home. More precisely, within the radius of one full tank. Of course, this depends somewhat on the capacity of the respective vehicle tank. Let's assume we start our road trip near Berlin in the Grand California: with a single tank of fuel (80 litres), we can travel more than 900 km if we drive economically. That means 900km full of local destinations.
P.S.: Did you know that local travel is not the only way to travel sustainably? Since local travel by car also inevitably generates CO2, we use natureOffice to ensure that no kilometre is left uncompensated.
Here you can find the most beautiful destinations near Berlin.

One full tank: 9 destinations near Berlin

1. Climbing in Schorfheide

The first destination on our sustainable trip around Berlin is the Schorfheide Climbing Forest. On eight treetop courses you can see the forest from a new perspective and there are different levels of difficulty to make sure all climbing enthusiasts will have fun. The region around Schorfheide-Chorin generally offers a wide range of excursion options: A wildlife park and the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve are also right nearby. In contrast to ´national parks` where nature is largely left untouched the main focus of the biosphere reserve lies on the coexistence of man and nature, on biodiversity and nature-friendly management. There's plenty of space for hiking or paddling trips on canoes or SUPs. You can easily book the latter with Off!
Camping tip: The holiday park is located very close to the climbing forest. Üdersee Camp - a small pristine campsite by the water and a great place to stay overnight to explore other corners of the region the next day!
Kletterwald in der Nähe von Berlin

2. Canoeing in Müritz-Nationalpark

The Müritz National Park is the largest national park in Germany and a place of unlimited possibilities: Lakes, moors and swampy forests provide a unique habitat for thousands of animal species such as cranes, white-tailed eagles and ospreys. You can observe them particularly well at Amalienhof near Boek. Here you can hike and cycle endlessly as the network of paths and trails is vast: that's why the area is also know as Havelurwald. The forest is criss-crossed by primeval undergrowth and small river courses, therefore it feels like you're canoeing through the Amazon and not the Havel. The subchannels are surrounded by green overgrown banks and make the park one of the most diverse destinations near Berlin.
Camping tip: If you want to spend the night close to nature and the canoes it's best to visit the Mirow canoe station. From here you can not only quickly reach the water lily area but the operators are also committed to sustainable, environmentally friendly canoe tourism. All leisure activities here are carried out in harmony with the environment and nature.

3. Lychen and a cup of coffee at the waterfront

Lychen is located in the middle of the Uckermark. The small town which surrounded by water clearly takes water sports to the next level. Everything from fishing and sailing to diving, rafting and kayaking is possible here. In addition, the idyllic town is full of wonderful restaurants and small cafes at the waterfront.
Camping tip: We can recommend the campsite Wurlsee Campingin Lychen. It's the perfect spot for sitting outside by the lake and watching the sunset.

4. Go on an Amazon expedition from the Mildenberg Freeport

In the northern outskirts of Berlin, more precisely on an idyllic peninsula in the middle of the ´Amazon region of the Overhavel` lies Freihafen Mildenberg. A small natural paradise and a place for those interested in culture as well as for adventure lovers because nature, space, beer and a barbecue await you on the idyllic peninsula. The oasis which is surrounded by water on three sides is located on the banks of the river Havel and has its own lake, offering many places to relax and unwind. For more active campers kayaks, canoes and SUPs are available to explore the surroundings of the Upper Havel as art installations and enchanted buildings hide between streams and lakes. So the list of activities is long.
Camping tip: And if you want to stay longer there's also a place to camp at Freihafen Mildenberg. This place is undoubtedly worth a visit with friends or family.

5. Simming and sauna at the ´Fontane Therme Neuruppin`

Activities and water sports are fun but what if the water could also be used for wellness and relaxation for a change? The best way to do that is at Fontane Therme in Neuruppin. Here you'll find a bio lake sauna with direct lake access where the sunset over Lake Ruppiger feels especially warm. Our fourth destinations near Berlin is about an hour drive away from Berlin-Mitte. During the week, you can sweat here for 4 hours for 30€.

6. Stargazing in the Westhavelland Nature Park

If you continue south-west along the Havel you will soon reach the Westhavelland Nature Park. The area is one of the largest wetlands in Europe and offers a habitat not only for water birds, beavers, otters and sea eagles but nature lovers will also find a place to walk, kayak, cycle or stargaze. The latter is particularly nice as the area around the Westhavelland Natural Landscape is sparsely populated and therefore there's hardly any pollution to block the view of the starry sky. It's so dark here that the park was named Germany's first ´star park` in 2014.
Camping tip: You can also find the Biouvac site Grützhere. In summer you can borrow a telescope and sleep outdoors under the starry sky.
Sternenhimmel

7. A trip to the ´Wannsee` in Berlin

The ´Wannsee` certainly isn't an insider tip. And that's not a bad thing because this place is one of the attractions that is both well-known and steeped in history. It offers a lot and therefore is worth a trip again and again. Activities here are not limited to swimming: In the middle of the lake is Peacock Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that's simply made for walking. If you want to you can take a picture of the Babelsberg Palace and the Glienicke Bridge and end the evening with the Mediterranean flair of the Hofcafé Mutter Fourage. The menu, as well as the ambience, is particularly authentic and lovingly selected here.
Camping tip: There's a large selection of campsites near Wannsee - but if you prefer a quieter type of camping then there's also a lot of private pitches for you.

8. Release your energy in the water ski park Zossen

We admit it: There are probably not a lot of activities that look cooler than wakeboarding. Nevertheless, one thing is certain: nonchalance only comes through practice and a lot of initial effort. The perfect place for this is the waterski park in Zossen: Here, in the paradise of water sports you can try out all different kinds of activities. Whether on one or multiple boards: the sports facility and rental are extensively equipped and thus a clear must on our road trip around Berlin.
And after you let all your energy out the beach at the lake is the perfect place for a relaxing swim, a picnic and a cold Spezi.
Camping tip: A few kilometres from Zossen lies the
camping site at Motzener See. It not only offers a small pine forest with many pitches but also lake access with a sandy beach.
Wasserskifahrer

9. Insider tip: Müggelberge

The Müggelsee lies on the eastern outskirts of Berlin. Here you can swim and paddle at will. Less well known, however, are the Müggelberge mountains, Berlin's highest elevation. There are countless cycling and hiking paths here and mountain bikers will find plenty of trails. But we also have tips for all nature lovers who are less interested in activities because there's also a lot to do in Müggelberge besides sports: those who prefer a leisurely walk in the forest can stroll along romantic root-covered paths that wind under old oaks or grill bread and marshmallows at one of the campfire sites. An absolute must on our list of destinations near Berlin.
Camping tip: Close to Müggelberge lies the campsite ´Historisches Fährhaus`. The small harbour offers a wonderful view of the river.
