Plansee

The Plansee is a large mountain lake in Tyrol in Austria. It is located in the district of Reutte and belongs to the municipality of Breitenwang. The lake is part of the nature reserve ´Ammergebirge - Ettaler Forst` and is located in a beautiful alpine environment surrounded by mountains.
The lake is known for its impressive landscape and clear water. It is about 2.8 kilometres long, 970 metres wide and reaches a depth of about 78 metres at its deepest point. The lake is fed by the glaciers of the surrounding mountains and its water is therefore of drinking water quality. Lake Heiterwanger borders it to the south-west and drains into Lake Plansee via the Archbach stream.

Swimming in the Plansee and access to the water

In addition to the campsite's own access points to the water, there are several public beaches around the lake where you can access the water and where you will often find changing rooms and public toilets, and sometimes sun loungers and parasols for hire.
On many parts of the shore there are places where it is relatively easy to get into the water for a swim and other places where it is rockier and muddier which may be more difficult to get in, so make sure you find a safe place ;)
